Miyazaki’s work is brilliant. He successfully merges the possible with the impossible and gives the word ‘unique’ a whole new meaning. In each of his movies, he gives all attention to detail and as a result ensures that the viewer knows the story and the truth. Spirited Away (2001) is probably his most well known and loved movie. Other equally fantastic and beautiful movies include Howl’s Moving Castle (2004), Princess Mononoke (1997), My Neighbour Totoro (1988), From Up On Poppy Hill (2011), The Secret World Of Arrietty (2010) and many more.
His work clearly and evidently shows that he is learned and knows the things not many people do. There is coherent and tangible meaning behind every scene in any one of his movies and behind the movie as a whole.
It is not an easy task to induce wonder in both children’s and adult’s minds and Miyazaki effortlessly achieves this in all his movies. His work is a balanced mix of creativity and technical talent with an element of fun and one of slightly eerie mystery and that’s what makes it truly beautiful and a joy to watch.
