Silver jewelry is a must-have in every jewelry box. Silver has a soft luster, shine, brilliance, and versatility and once you buy silver earrings, you are bound to fall in love with them. Despite these attributes, silver is a fragile metal that tends to discolor, stain and get scratches fast. Nevertheless, with the following cleaning measures, your sterling silver earrings can maintain their shine for years.

Polish them

The primary method of cleaning silver earrings is polishing them. Once worn, they come into contact with body oils and moisture. Hence, before putting them away, run them through warm water. Wipe them dry and polish them thoroughly with a clean cloth, following the grain of the silver. In this way, you get to eliminate any dirt and oil residue that was on them.

Soap and water

Polishing may be the first line of defense, but it rarely gets the work done, so soap and water comes in. To put the sparkle back into the earrings, add some dish soap to warm water and put your silver earrings in. Wash them gently and the mixture will remove any accumulated tarnish, bringing back the silver shine. Choose a soap with ammonia as it works best.

Baking soda and water

Another substitute for commercial silver cleaners is baking soda. Combine baking soda with water and make a thick paste. Apply it on the earrings and use a cloth to apply it all around. If your icecarats earrings are detailed or engraved, add more water to the paste to thin it and use a toothbrush to reach all the edges. It will remove the cracks and built-up dirt. Once done, run under running water and pat them dry. You will have your shiny pieces of jewelry.

Olive oil and lemon juice

Another great way to clean your earrings is by using lemon juice and olive oil. Make a paste by mixing in a large bowl a half a cup of lemon juice with a teaspoon of olive oil. Take your cotton cloth and dip in the solution, squeeze out the excess solution, and polish your sterling earring. The acidic properties in the lemon juice together with the oil will melt the stains away, leaving the earrings spotless. Finally, rinse in warm water and dry them.

Baking soda and white vinegar

Another cleaning solution is the use of baking soda and vinegar. Unlike when you use baking soda and water, this one is a slow-acting method guaranteed to provide you with great results. All you have to do is mix a cup of white vinegar with two tablespoons of baking soda. Take your sterling earrings and dip them in the solution and let them sit for about three hours. The solution will eat away the dirt and discoloration leaving them spotless. Remove them, rinse and dry.

Use baking soda, boiling water, salt, and aluminum foil

The strategy is the final measure you should try if all others fail to work. Take some aluminum foil and line your sink with it. Next, place your sterling earring on the foil and pour in boiling water until fully submerged. Add two tablespoons of salt and baking soda and stir until they dissolve. In about ten minutes all the discoloration and smears will come off. Drain the mixture and rinse in warm water and dry them.

Everyone values their elegant silver jewelry. So, when you buy sterling silver earrings from highly regarded companies you would want to enjoy them for a while. Therefore, clean them through the above measures and you will enjoy them for a long time.
